A MOTION confirming the Suburban Cities Association's nominees for membership on the King County Flood Control Zone District advisory committee.

WHEREAS, the 2006 King County Flood Hazard Management Plan identifies approximately three hundred thirty-five million dollars in critical flood protection programs and projects over ten years, not including projects to repair approximately thirty-three million dollars in new damage from the floods in late 2006, and
WHEREAS, the council adopted Ordinance 15728 to form a countywide flood control zone district to address these flood protection needs, and
WHEREAS, Ordinance 15728 also created a fifteen-person advisory committee for the district in accordance with RCW 86.15.070, and
WHEREAS, Ordinance 15728 provides for the Suburban Cities Association to nominate four members to the advisory committee for two-year seats, subject to confirmation by the council, and
WHEREAS, in approving the nominations to the temporary seats, the King County council stated their intent to alternate the membership of the seats allocated to the Suburban Cities Association amongst cities within King County that do not have permanent seats, in accordance with four general groupings of such cities as follows:
A. North county jurisdictions: Bothell, Duvall, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Shoreline, Skykomish and Woodinville;p
B. Central county jurisdictions: Beaux Arts, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Issaquah, Kirkland, Medina, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Redmond, Sammamish and Yarrow Point;
C. South county jurisdictions: Algona, Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Milton, Normandy Park, Pacific and SeaTac; and
D. East county jurisdictions: Covington, Black Diamond, Enumclaw and Maple Valley, and
WHEREAS, the Suburban Cities Association completed their nomination process on May 9, 2007, and forwarded the names of persons representing cities in a manner consistent with the above-stated council intent for geographic equity, and
WHEREAS, Ordinance 15728 directs the advisory committee to review and recommend an annual work program and budget for the district, including capital improvement program projects and funding levels and to submit recommendations to the clerk of the King County council by August 31 of each year, and
WHEREAS, the first advisory committee meeting has been scheduled for May 17, 2007 to give the advisory committee sufficient time to complete its work by August 31, 2007;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The Suburban Cities Association's nomination of the following persons for membership on the King County Flood Control Zone District advisory committee for two-year terms, to expire on May 16, 2009, is hereby confirmed:
A. The Honorable Ron Hansen, council member, city of Shoreline;
B. The Honorable Joan McBride, deputy mayor, city of Kirkland;
C. The Honorable Michael Park, mayor, city of Federal Way; and
D. The Honorable Laure Iddings, mayor, city of Maple Valley.
