A MOTION approving sixty-four projects for the King County cultural education program, in accordance with Ordinance 11242.

      WHEREAS, the King County arts commission and the King County landmarks and heritage commission are authorized by Ordinance 11242 to administer cultural education projects, and
      WHEREAS, involving children in the arts, and in studying and contributing to the historic record of their own communities, fosters creativity and an ethic of stewardship and citizenship, helps to bridge the generations, and builds strong communities, and
      WHEREAS, the King County office of cultural resources received eighty-three applications requesting $835,270 from the 2002 cultural education program, and
      WHEREAS, a review panel of heritage professionals, educators and community representatives, and members of the cultural education advisory committee, reviewed all applications and made recommendations to the King County arts commission and the King County landmarks and heritage commission, as listed in Attachments A.1 and A.2 (arts) and B.1 and B.2 (heritage) to this motion, and
      WHEREAS, the King County arts commission and the King County landmarks and heritage commission approved the review panels' recommendations, and
      WHEREAS, the recommendations for arts and heritage cultural education program funding adhere to the guidelines and financial plan policies approved by the King County council in Motion 8797, and
      WHEREAS, the financial plan included as Attachment C to this motion, has been revised to indicate actual hotel/motel tax revenue for 2001, and
      WHEREAS, the financial plan supports cultural education program funding;
      NOW, THEREFORE BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      The executive is hereby authorized to allocate a total of $406,662 that includes $328,002 for fifty-three arts projects as listed in Attachment A.1 tot his motion and described in Attachment A.2 to this motion and $78,660 for eleven heritage projects as
 
listed in Attachment B.1 to this motion and described in Attachment B.2 to this motion, for a total of $406,662 supporting sixty-four cultural education projects.
