Title

A MOTION of the Board of Supervisors of the King County Flood Control Zone District, renaming the Flood Reduction Grant Program the Steve Bleifuhs Memorial Flood Reduction Grant Program.

Body

                     WHEREAS, the King County Flood Control Zone District provides grant funding for projects with flood reduction benefits, and watershed restoration and protection, and

                     WHEREAS, in 2014, the District created the Flood Reduction Grant program to provide grant funding for projects with flood reduction benefits and, in 2020, the program was expanded to address countywide flood issues of urban streams, coastal erosion/coastal flooding, and culvert replacement/fish passage restoration, and

                     WHEREAS, these grants are a key component of the District's efforts to respond to and reduce flood issues for the residents of King County, and

                     WHEREAS, the District has historically partnered with King County to oversee this grant program, and relied upon King County to implement the District's efforts to reduce flood issues, and

                     WHEREAS, the District desires to honor the memory of a longtime member and division manager of the King County team, Steve Bleifuhs, who was a celebrated member of the Department of Natural Resources and Parks, Water and Land Resources Division team during his nearly 30-year career with King County, and

                     WHEREAS, Steve served as the Managing Supervisor responsible for the development of the 2006 King County Flood Hazard Management Plan, which was the blueprint for county management of more than 500 flood control facilities and aided the April 2007 creation of the District, and

                     WHEREAS, Steve was the Department of Natural Resources and Parks's main contact with the District, helping to facilitate the collaboration between the District and County, which, since the District's 2007 creation, has resulted in the implementation of over 370 capital projects aimed at mitigating the risk of levee and revetment failures, and

                     WHEREAS, in memory of the many significant contributions Steve made to flood prevention efforts throughout King County in partnership with the District, the Board desires to honor his memory by renaming the Flood Reduction Grant Program the Steve Bleifuhs Memorial Flood Reduction Grant Program;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE KING COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL ZONE DISTRICT:

                     SECTION 1.  The Board of Supervisors of the King County Flood Control Zone District hereby designates the District's Flood Reduction Grant Program as the Steve Bleifuhs Memorial Flood Reduction Grant Program and directs the District's Executive Director to take all actions necessary to implement this designation. The Board further

directs King County to reflect this designation in all materials in its efforts to implement the program as the District's service provider.
