A MOTION providing for the honorary designation as Eric Anderson Memorial Field for Petrovitsky Park Baseball Diamond Number 1, to commemorate the life of Eric Anderson, who was a mentor, leader and inspiration to the thousands of students whose lives he touched as Athletic Director at Kentridge High School.

Body

                     WHEREAS, King County is home to many parks and recreation fields, and                     WHEREAS, on occasion, the King County council has designated fields, parks and trails in honor of community members who have dedicated themselves to service to others, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson, who was born in 1960 and is survived by his wife Margy and their two children, Maria and Ian, was well known for his encouragement and geniality throughout the Fairwood Community, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson was born in Enumclaw and graduated from Enumclaw High School, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson began teaching in the Kent School District in 1985, after working in the Tonasket school district, coming to Kentridge High School in 1998 and becoming athletic director in 2000, and

                     WHEREAS, during Eric Anderson's time at Kentridge High School, he also served as the leadership teacher, focusing on mentoring students and athletes and helping them grow into positive and effective leaders in the community, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson also served as baseball commissioner of the North Puget Sound League, organizing and enthusiastically supporting baseball games, tournaments and events for sixteen schools, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson excelled at encouraging students in their academic and extracurricular endeavors, and was a beloved and compassionate leader and coworker, and

                     WHEREAS, more than one thousand people celebrated Eric Anderson's life at a student-organized candle light vigil in his honor, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson was known as "the face of Kentridge" and the students and faculty at Kentridge High School, as well as members of the surrounding, community will miss him dearly, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson also touched the lives of many in the Kent School District and the North and South Puget Sound Leagues, and

                     WHEREAS, the joy, laughter and love of sports exhibited at Petrovitsky Park mirrors that which Eric Anderson projected on an everyday basis, and

                     WHEREAS, Eric Anderson himself played baseball throughout his youth in Enumclaw, and

                     WHEREAS, naming a baseball field in his honor is truly befitting to memorialize this vital member of the community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     A.  Baseball Diamond Number 1 in Petrovitsky Park is given the honorary designation as Eric Anderson Memorial Field to commemorate the life of Eric Anderson, who was a mentor, leader and inspiration to the thousands of students whose lives he touched as Athletic Director at Kentridge High School.

                     B.  The executive is requested to erect at least one sign by Baseball Diamond Number 1, noting the honorary designation as Eric Anderson Memorial Field.
