Title
A MOTION appointing a qualified person to a vacant position on the public hospital district No. 1 board of commissioners.
Body
WHEREAS, public hospital district No. 1 is a special purpose district, and
WHEREAS, public hospital district No. 1's governing body is a five member board of commissioners ("the board"), and
WHEREAS, Position No. 4 on the board has been vacant since October 16, 2023, when the former commissioner notified the district of a residential address change that took the commissioner out of the district, and
WHEREAS, RCW 42.12.080 describes the process for filling a vacancy on local governing bodies in special purpose districts, and
WHEREAS, in accordance with RCW 42.12.080, in case of a vacancy, remaining members of the governing body for the special purpose district shall nominate at least one candidate at a meeting of the governing body, post notice of the vacancy and name of the nominated candidate or candidates for a minimum of fifteen days, and appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy within ninety days of the vacancy, and
WHEREAS, in accordance with RCW 42.12.080, if the local governing body does not fill the vacancy within ninety days, its authority to fill the vacancy ceases, and the county legislative authority shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy within one hundred eighty days of the vacancy, and
WHEREAS, the board nominated candidates, provided notice of nominated candidates for fifteen days, and met on January 4, 2024, to discuss candidates, and
WHEREAS, the board did not fill the vacancy within the specified ninety-day period, which ended January 14, 2024, and Position No. 4 remains vacant, and
WHEREAS, in accordance with RCW 42.12.080, the King County council is now responsible for appointing a commissioner to fill the vacancy by April 13, 2024;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
In accordance with RCW 42.12.080 the King County council hereby
