A MOTION authorizing the King County executive to accept a donation of three hundred ninety-two thousand dollars from Forterra to aid King County in acquiring land for conservation and passive recreation purposes.

WHEREAS, gifts that conserve forested land and open space and provide new opportunities for passive recreation are tangible ways of making a difference now and for future generations of King County citizens, and
WHEREAS, under K.C.C. 7.08.070, the King County parks and recreation division has the authority to solicit gifts from individuals, foundations, not-for-profit organizations, and corporate sources, and
WHEREAS, under K.C.C. 2.80.060, any and all gifts for parks and recreation purposes that exceed fifty thousand dollars require acceptance on behalf of King County by the King County council by motion, and
WHEREAS, Forterra is pleased to support the King County parks and recreation division by donating the generous gift from an anonymous donor, and
WHEREAS, this generous gift will support King County parks and recreation division's acquisition of properties in south King County, and
WHREAS, the parks and recreation division business plan emphasizes generation of entrepreneurial revenues, including pursuing gifts, bequests and donations, and
WHEREAS, the parks and recreation division's 2015 and 2016 capital improvement biennial budget authorizes the expenditure of these funds for acquisition purposes under Ordinance 18239, Section 41, and
WHEREAS, gifts in support of parks and recreation facilities and programs are to be credited to the parks trust and contribution fund before being transferred to the parks capital fund to support the King County parks and recreation division, and its land conservation activities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
