A MOTION establishing the 2015 state legislative agenda for the King County Flood Control Zone District.
Body
WHEREAS, the King County Flood Control Zone District ("District") intends to bring its positions on matters critical to flood protection efforts to the attention of the 2015 Washington state Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the District should work cooperatively with other local governments and other organizations such as King County, the Washington Association of Counties, the Washington Association of County Officials, the Sound Cities Association and the Association of Washington Cities to achieve its 2015 legislative goals; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature has recognized that flood control zone districts have an essential role that is addressing far-reaching and significant threats to public health, public safety and economic activity posed by floods, including ownership of assets; and
WHEREAS, the District funds flood preparedness and flood control projects and King County, as a service provider to the District, delivers these services under interlocal agreement and partnership with the District; and
WHEREAS, the District needs to assure a revenue stream sufficient to develop flood reduction safety programs and projects in rural, urban, agricultural and industrial areas of King County, which is fostered, in part, through exemption from tax prorationing; and
WHEREAS, sources of revenue for flood reduction safety programs and project development and construction are made possible through numerous sources of external revenue from various state and federal grants and flood reduction and mitigation assistance programs; and
WHEREAS, the board of supervisors of the District desires to adopt a 2015 state
legislative agenda; now, therefore
BE IT MOVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE KING COUNTY
