A MOTION calling for the renewal of the relationship between Kaohsiung City and King County.
Body
      WHEREAS, King County aims to build lasting partnerships with diverse communities to establish mutual, healthy economies and environments where all people and businesses have the opportunity to thrive, and
      WHEREAS, the Port of Seattle is an important gateway to Taiwan, China and other international entities, and
      WHEREAS, the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office ("TECO") in Seattle was founded to promote and strengthen the economic and cultural ties between the United States and the Republic of China of Taiwan, and
      WHEREAS, King County has formerly had Kaohsiung as a sister county.  Kaohsiung county has now been folded into the city of Kaohsiung as a combined city-county municipality, and
      WHEREAS, in partnership with TECO, King County and the city of Kaohsiung wish to recreate their vibrant sister government relationship, and
      WHEREAS, organizations like TECO attract tourists and immigrants to our region and have benefited our region culturally, educationally and economically, and
      WHEREAS, from the Port of Kaohsiung to the Puget Sound, King County hopes to foster friendship and understanding between dynamic cultures;
      NOW THEREFORE BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      King County looks forward to renewing its relationship with Kaohsiung city and seeking new opportunities for international partnerships.
