AN ORDINANCE relating to sewage disposal agreements; authorizing the King County executive to enter into an amendment to, and extension of, King County's agreement for sewage disposal with the city of Kirkland.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1.  King County and the city of Kirkland entered into a long-term agreement for sewage disposal dated May 5, 1961, as amended and previously extended through 2036.
2.  The King County council approved Ordinance 15666 in 2006, which authorizes the county executive to extend and amend the long-term sewage disposal agreements with specified cities and special purpose districts, including the city of Kirkland.
3.  King County has proposed certain changes to, and a second extension of, the term of the long-term sewage agreement through 2056 between the county and the city of Kirkland, which is Attachment A to this ordinance and which is consistent with Ordinance 15666.
4.  The city of Kirkland has agreed in principle to the extension and amendments negotiated by the parties.
5.  The council has expressed its intent that the county executive continue to seek contract renewals with the local sewer utilities served by the county's regional wastewater system.
      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  The executive is authorized to execute an amendment to, and
extension of, King County's agreement for sewage disposal, substantially in the form of Attachment A to this ordinance, with the city of Kirkland.
