AN ORDINANCE relating to emergency jail housing authorizing the extension of an emergency jail housing agreement for temporary detention services between King County and the Pierce county sheriff's office.

      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  Findings:
      A.  King County department of adult and juvenile detention ("DAJD") has a need for options to house inmates elsewhere in an emergency situation.
      B.  In 2009, DAJD and the Pierce county sheriff's office (“PCSO”) entered into an agreement to provide housing to assist DAJD in an emergent situation.
      C.  DAJD and PCSO have identified a plan and cost reimbursement for emergency housing.
      D.  The agreement may be reciprocal for PCSO and if needed, both parties shall negotiate terms.
      E.  All elements of the existing agreement dated October 27, 2009, renewed on October 27, 2010, shall remain in effect until December 31, 2012, except that the maximum number of available beds is reduced from one hundred sixty-eight to eighty-four.
      SECTION 2.  The King County executive is hereby authorized to execute the extension of the existing emergency jail housing agreement, in substantially the form of Attachment A to this ordinance, between King County and the Pierce county sheriff's office.
